Suttur, December 22, 2025: National Mathematics Day was celebrated at JSS High School, Suttur, under the aegis of the JSS Science and Technology Knowledge Resource Center, Suttur, with the aim of fostering interest and appreciation for mathematics among students.

As part of the programme, Mr. Ilangovan, Coordinator of the JSS Science and Technology Knowledge Resource Center, delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the significance of National Mathematics Day. He spoke in detail about the life and extraordinary contributions of legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, elaborating on his work in number theory, infinite series, mock theta functions, Ramanujan’s magic square, polyhedrons, and the thousands of formulas and theorems he contributed to the field of mathematics.

Adding a practical and creative dimension to the celebrations, Mr. Muralidhar, Director of the Mysore Science Foundation and a renowned origami expert, conducted an engaging hands-on session on origami for more than 100 students. Through paper folding, students created various mathematical models such as solid figures, stars, cylinders, cones, pyramids, rockets, and other geometric forms. He emphasized that mathematics is not rigid or difficult but can be beautiful and enjoyable, remarking that “mathematics is not iron; it is as sweet as a peeled banana.” Students actively participated in the session and joyfully created mathematical models, making learning both fun and meaningful.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Shri G. L. Tripurantaka, Coordinator of JSS Education Institute, encouraged students to dream big in life and work diligently in the right direction to realize those dreams. Referring to Srinivasa Ramanujan, he said that although Ramanujan lived only for 32 years, his contributions will remain relevant for centuries. He emphasized that the length of life is not as important as the lasting value of one’s achievements.

The programme was compered by Mr. V. Vinod Kumar, Physics teacher.

More than 500 students and teachers participated in the event, making the celebration a grand success.
